Biography/Artist Statement

Don Britton is an award-winning artist who creates representational oil paintings of the landscapes of the American West from the California coast to the deserts and canyons of the Southwest to the Northern Rockies.

In spite of early interest in, and rich exposure to art, his first career took a different path. He received a BA from the University of Colorado and a PhD from The Ohio State University followed by a lengthy career in neuroscience research. Yet, he maintained his interest in art, and in 2004, began the serious study of landscape painting with Nevada artist, Mark Tompkins. Painting quickly became a full-time occupation. He enriched his education through studies with some of the present-day masters of the genre including Skip Whitcomb, William Scott Jennings, Jim Wilcox, Gregory Kondos, Calvin Liang and Matt Smith.

His work has been installed in United States Embassies and was the subject of a feature article in International Artist.

Memberships: The Artists Council of Palm Desert, The California Art Club, The American Society of Marine Artists and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
