Lynn York

Biography/Artist Statement

Lynn York is in southern California, painting music themed images and desert imagery. She art helps everything else maintain balance. Happiest with an art tool in her hand, and watching images come alive, brings her joy.

Music is a frequent theme. The sway and movement created by musical instruments, or notes and symbols bring different stories to each image.

Like so many, art for Lynn, started as a young child with an artistic mother and a pianist grandmother. Her professional art career started in photography. Lynn studied photography with Dr. Will Counts at Indiana University and Arthur Tausig in California. In the 80’s, as a freelance photographer, she had eclectic opportunities, including theater groups, models’ portfolios and band photographer for folks like guitarists Doug Kershaw, Doc Pittillo and Alan Joseph.

She has an ACA Photoshop Certificate, and also tutors in Photoshop and computer skills.

Retired from teaching, gives her the chance to paint and create.

Lynn began painting murals in the mid 90’s for residential properties and promotional pieces for a local movie theater. At College of the Desert, she designed mural art for a student computer lab. Her public murals are displayed in Rising Sun and Aurora, Indiana, completed during her community work in each city. She participated in the Aurora Mural, Main St. projects; Windows of Aurora, for 3 separate years' grants and finishing 5 murals. The Aurora Local History Library has 4 of her paintings of the historic architecture of Aurora, Indiana, in their permanent collection.

Lynn was a member of Southeast Indiana Art Guild and was the vice president in charge of shows from 2012-2014. During her 4 years with SIAG, she worked in her store front studio and maintained regular hours for the guild’s gallery. Lynn studied with Tina Garrett, Cindy Crofoot, Herb Herrick, Marlene Steele, and Vera Curnow. She also taught classes and actively promoted local artists.
