Biography/Artist Statement

David Burr is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, jewelry design, and digitally constructed imagery. His work blends abstract and surreal elements to explore the full spectrum of human emotion, moving fluidly between harmony and tension. Through vivid color, layered texture, and expressive form, Burr creates work that invites emotional resonance, whether uplifting, contemplative, or quietly unsettling.

Burr’s paintings are rooted in emotional abstraction, drawing on influences from pop art, abstract expressionism, and contemporary art. His visual language has evolved through extensive experimentation with watercolor, gouache, ink, resists, acrylic, and digital media. In recent years, acrylic pouring has become a central focus, allowing Burr to explore chance, movement, and material transformation as essential components of expression.

That exploration naturally extended into jewelry design. Burr began transforming paint overpours from his acrylic works into sculptural, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, creating a direct physical connection between canvas and wearable form. This process led to his current body of handcrafted beaded jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, key chains, fairy wands, and other symbolic objects. Each piece functions as a wearable extension of his artistic philosophy, transforming feeling into form.

Exposed to art at an early age through his mother, an accomplished artist, Burr developed a lifelong commitment to creative exploration. His work reflects inspiration from artists such as Pollock, Kline, Motherwell, Miró, Warhol, Klee, and Kandinsky, while maintaining a distinct contemporary voice.

David Burr’s work has been exhibited in galleries and art shows across the United States, including Boca Raton, Vero Beach, San Francisco, and Sacramento.
